Thermally Efficient

The Omni Block System 8 has a calculated R-20.2 (U=0.049)  rating per qualified independent third-party thermal analysis at 105 lb Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) density. Most HVAC engineers and energy specialists agree that there is more to wall energy efficiency than just the R-value of a heavy-weight material. Thermal mass exposed to the conditioned environment, thermal lag and air-tightness of concrete block walls increase the “performance value” that is routinely used or inputed into computer programs, such as ResCheck or ComCheck. The increased value R-24.6 for Omni Block was derived from an ASHRAE calculation method of 90.1 and has been used for years without exception, including Certainteed’s Environments For Living guaranteed utility program.

The independent analysis of Omni Block’s reduced thermal bridging, off-set cross webs, and middle lineal wall configurations combined with layers of insulation (deducting R-value where the voids occur in the insulation due to the block cross webs) were consistent with actual building performance and building energy utility costs.

8″ Block Design

• 7 5/8″ x 7 5/8″ x 15 5/8″ standard cementitious masonry unit (CMU)
• No direct cross webs
• Thermal path extended to 14″
• Offset and constricted cross webs and a middle lineal wall create cells
• Cells are individually filled with uniformly molded Expanded Polystyrene insulation inserts
• Small cell may be required to be filled with rebar and grout
• Three layers of thermal mass and two layers of insulation
